This week, we pitched our idea for an interactive movie to other students during the lecture.
During studio time, we fleshed out our story ideas and began to sketch down some branching plot-lines. Our basic story overview is as follows:
A small group of people are living in a post-apocalyptic world, struggling for survival. Many months ago, the world's population was demolished when a strange, black liquid substance pelted down upon the earth. People who came into contact with the substance began to show signs of contamination, from black rashes to bouts of madness. Many people infected by the unknown liquid resorted to suicide. People who let the infection continue in their bodies slowly mutated into barely-human abominations.
As time went by, survivors who were not in contact with the liquid began to exhibit symptoms of infection. It was assumed that the liquid emanated some sort of radiation that also slowly contaminated people. As such, the remaining survivors fled their homes in an effort to find a place to live that hadn't been infected.
In the beginning of our film, we are introduced to three characters who strongly believe they are the only remaining survivors...
During studio time, we also researched interactive scripting methods for DVD Studio Pro. Using scripting techniques, we will be able to achieve our wanted results for this project. Audiences will be able to make choices during the movie using their DVD remotes, and some choices will even have time limits (quick time events). Failing to make a choice within the allocated time often results in the characters being killed and the movie ending abruptly.
We also received confirmation that we can work on the project over 2 semesters. Our goal in the first semester is to film & program a 'demo' version of the film. This will include all branching plot paths up to a certain climax in the story, thus providing a cliffhanger ending. In second semester, we will produce the final half of the movie and release the entire film on DVD.
